Day 01
So this is the first day of my voyage out to LA along historic Route 66. Obviously nothing to report yet just leaving Muncie, IN. Since WiFi will be sparse, I’m posting now cause idk when the next opportunity will be. I guess I’ll just describe the trip at this point. I’ve always wanted to drive Route 66 out to LA and this summer I am required to do a cultural immersion for my grad program. I figured this was the perfect opportunity. Don’t really have too much to say so far. I have a few rules to the trip I’m trying to follow:
1. Stick to the oldest possible Route 66 roads that are still drivable (I think it’s like %20 of the road isn’t possible to drive on anymore)
2. Only eat at local places. No fast food.
3. Explore. Talk to people. In general, just live in the spirit of exploration.
I think I’m ready for the trip. Who knows? I’ll probably figure out about a half dozen things I forgot along the way. Bad omen number one: it looks like it’s gonna rain like crazy on my first day on the road. But Mellencamp’s Small Town is the first song that came on so it can’t be all bad. Car’s in good shape. Full tank. Let’s go.
